Chester Zoo is one of those zoo's that everyone should visit at least once in their life. The old concept of a "zoo" does not apply here and, over the years, the zoo has developed into something resembling sections of natural habitat of all over the world. Indeed, many animals one associates with a Zoo are not even kept here. Polar Bears and Gorilla's long since vanished. I wanted to see my favourite animal - the wolf - but there are none kept there, if you don't count the fox like creature in one large compound. Many of the creatures in this "Conservation Zoo" live in their natural surroundings, or as near as they can make it. A visit to the Jaguar House will confirm this, as will a visit to the Aquarium or the Tiger or Lion compounds. Below are images that I took on the day. My own favourite was the "Bat Cave" into which we walked through sealed doors into a free flying bat environment. Old superstitions still apparently abound as some 'screamy' girls covered their heads in case the bats flew into their hair. Lack of proper education is the real problem! Once my eyes adjusted to the gloomy interior I could see bats both large and small living and flying freely, some zipping between me and my wife as we walked close together. Really beautiful place!  As I am now a pensioner (2017) I probably wont be going there again as the costs are rising faster than my pension!!!
