Apart from the couple of sites where exterior shots are
located for the tv comedy, there is precious little to shout about here.
We did
have a lovely meal in a pub not a stone's throw from Nora Batty's "house" and
the nearby "Sids Cafe"
and then there was the overzealous traffic warden in the supermarket car
park, apart from that, nothing!
So, even if you are a fan of Last of the
Summer Wine, dont bother. Recommendation level - 1/10
Site of Nora
Batty's (Kathy Staff) House. The UK's longest running comedy show ever is
Last of the Summer Wine, which first appeared
in 1972. It still runs now, in 2005. Old Wrinkled Stockings herself
"lived" here. A private house, its occupied as a normal residence.![]() |
and here is
the steps leading to her door![]() |
Compo's house
was underneath, entrance via this doorway, now an exhibition dedicated to
the memory of Bill Owen who played Compo till his death in 1999. His
famous ferrets home can be seen here![]() |
The view from
Nora Batty's home down to the river.![]() |
Here am I in
the doorway of Compo's (Bill Owen) home.![]() |
Sid's Cafe in
Victoria Square. At first was just a "front" but present site owner turned
it into the cafe.![]() |
An old and
small cobblers shop near Nora's House. These are disappearing fast in
today's throw away world.![]() |
Looking across
the river from the car park of the Elephant & Castle towards Noras.![]() |
Another cross
river viewpoint![]() |
The Elephant &
Castle who served one mean meat & potato pie! Nora's street on the rear
right.![]() |
Victoria
Square rear centre of image. Sid's Cafe is behind the Ironmongers.![]() |
A walk along
the river, looking back towards town centre![]() |
and in the
opposite direction. Thats it really, nothing else worth showing |
